GET THE FULL NORWEGIAN EXPERINCE. RIDE IN DENSELY FORESTED VALLEYS AND ALONGSIDE EPIC FJORDS AND MOUNTAINS.

Norway has an incredibly varied landscape but one thing is guaranteed - mountains. What better way to experience it than spending half of your week in the Hallingdal valley and the half on Norway's longest and deepest fjord, Sognfjord.

In the first half of the week you'll be based in Nesbyen, the heart of Hallingdal, where you'll ride numerous machine built flowy descents as well as a selection of more natural feeling old timber trails.

Midweek, you'll take a day off from riding and travel through UNESCO protected Næroyfjord, Flåm and Aurland sightseeing some of the most magnificent landscapes of Norway, giving the legs a rest before the 2nd half of the week.

The second half of the week you will be based in the old village of Lærdal, taking the ferry over the fjord each day to ride some of the most scenic, flowy, natural singletrack you could image. With the 1300m deep Sognfjord and 2,400m Hurrungane mountains as the backdrop.

BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

Ride and make sure your riding level matches the technical and fitness level the trip you have chosen requires. To get the most out of your trip we recommend that you get out riding on similar level trails in the weeks leading up to your departure and do some training.

You'll be riding flow trails with jumps and berms as well as some steep and technical descents. The more natural trails can also have features such as high speed rough straights, tight and steep corners, rock gardens with steps of 30-50cm, large rock slabs and not to forget - wet roots.

On regular trips there are no huge climbs but we will often climb around 10 to 20 minutes to connect different trails together, we might even find ourselves doing a short section of hike-a-bike when out on a true adventure. On E-bike rides we will often ride longer ascents while we get out into the backcountry but always try to avoid climbs that are too steep to ride.

We also recommend using Trailforks to check out some of the trails you'll be riding and understand the area - there are photos and videos availabe if you go into each individual trail.

Take some time to check out the local climate. Norway is known for being rainy but Nesbyen/Hallingdal is one of the drier areas of the country and it holds the all time heat record for Norway. Despite that, the are can experience all types of weather, it is possible to ride from May - October and in those early and late months it can be colder with some rain so we recommend bringing warm riding clothes. We also often ride up on the mountain tops where it can be colder, despite a warm summers day down in the valley.

Not least - check your bike over. It is important that you make sure you bike is in good working condition before you travel. We recommend checking things such as:
- Suspension is working and seals are not leaking
- Wheels are true and no spokes re missing
- Tyres are in good condition and have plenty of tread
- Brakes are working well, there is no spongy feel to them, no air in the system and the pads have plenty life left
- The wheel bearings are tight and there is no play
- Headset bearings are tight and there is no play
- Dropper seatpost is working well, extends and retracts smoothly
- Suspension and frame bearings have no play.
- All the gears work well, the gear cable shifts smoothly and the gears change smoothly. Make sure the drivetrain is not work out

You can drive direct to us if you wish, we have ample parking on site. We are around around 2hrs from Oslo and 4hrs30 from Bergen, use the link below for driving directions.

Nesbyen has its own train station which is 500m from the AETR guesthouse. We are able to pick you up from the station. There are direct trains from Bergen and Oslo, you can find and book trains on the norwegian rail website (please note you need to book your bike on in addition to your seat and there are a limited number of spaces):

Similar to the train, there is a national bus station about 500m from the AETR guesthouse. We are able to pick you up from the bus station. Fly

There are 3 airports which you can fly in to when travelling to us. Oslo Gardemoen, Oslo Torp and Bergen. Oslo Gardemoen is the largest with the most connections.

We offer pick up from Oslo Gardemoen directly, If you travel to Oslo Torp we can collect you from Drammen central station.

If you fly into Bergen then the train journey to get to us is indeed several hours longer however if you wish, you could consider this a part of your holiday as the train journey from Bergen to Nesbyen must be one of the most spectacular in the world, through the fjords and then up and over Hardangervidda.
